  • About
While mostly celebrated in Guangdong and Hong Kong, this festival is also popular in Fujian Province due to its fishing heritage. Tin Hau, the Goddess of the Sea, is known as the Queen of Heaven and the Mother of all fishermen, and was supposed to have been born in Fujian in 1093. There is an interesting story behind this holy figure: one day, as usual, her father and brothers went far out to sea to fish, but at home, Tin Hau had a dream that they were drowning. She flew over the deep sea on clouds and rescued her family. It is also believed that Tin Hau predicted storms and told travellers’ fortunes.
