People often ask me: What was your favorite meal to cook with your father? I always answer breakfast. It is still my favorite meal of the day.
On Saturday mornings, when my dad was home from filming, we went into the kitchen and made breakfast together. Just the two of us. Those were always very very special times for me: I had my dad all to myself, and I knew he was sharing more than just recipes with me. He was conveying the way he moved through the world.
My dad saw himself as a big kid. He never lost his childlike sense of wonder and amazement. So to be with him was to feel that I was going to get to grow up into a world of unending learning opportunities, joy, and interests.
