Before you start making the cake, check pan sizes and supplies needed. Use pliable spatulas to spread frosting; a short (4") blade is best for sides of cake. You can make your own decorating bag from heavy waxed or parchment paper, but for inexperienced cake-makers, it’s easier with a cake decorating set.
  1. Make certain you have freezer space or other proper storage if you bake cake a day ahead. You can give it a thin glaze the day before you frost and decorate it to save time.
