Haven’t you pitied the judges of cakes at county fairs? With so many beautiful loaves and layers on the tables before them, it’s far from easy to pick the winner. They have to be extra good. In this chapter we include three cakes that won ribbons; Grand Champion Sponge Cake follows—Blue Ribbon Banana Cake and First Prize Applesauce Cake.
