My story working in food began early as the daughter of a woman who was both a creative and uncompromising cook when it came to ingredients and techniques she used in her kitchen. While I objected to being her apprentice when I was young, I was not aware of how valuable these hands-on lessons would be later on in my career.
Although engineering is my formal training, my passion for food has always been with me. My journey began when I served as a translator for renowned American cookbook author Paula Wolfert. This led me to other opportunities centered around Turkish food culture — I worked as a consultant for the European Union Turkish Business Centres (ABIGEM), created to promote food companies in Turkey and develop a market share in Europe. I’ve also held positions with companies like Culinary Backstreets and Oldways, as well as participated in the first migration project of Turkey, which aimed to solve the problems of constant movement from rural to urban areas.
