You don’t need to stop eating cake just because you are trying to cut down the amount of sugar that you eat. Adding naturally sweet vegetables such as carrots, sweet potatoes and parsnips, or adding bananas or apples, helps to cut down the amount of added sugar while also boosting the levels of fibre and complex carbohydrates, so that these cakes take longer for the body to digest and give a more gradual energy boost.
