Are there moments in the day when you lack energy, and need a boost to keep you alert? Our bodies need power to carry out all the normal bodily functions we take for granted every hour of every day – walking to work, going to the gym, shopping, eating, and even just sitting and reading a book. Without energy even our brains would struggle to function. For children this need is even higher as their bodies are constantly growing and they too lead very busy lives.
Keeping energy levels up doesn’t mean reaching for a processed snack or sweet. While we may crave a cookie as a mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack, it might give a quick energy boost but that is soon over. This kind of snacking adds sugar without you even really noticing. The amount of sugar that we consume has come under close scrutiny and is now thought to be more of a problem than the amounts of fat that we eat.
