Knowing when best to eat around training or doing exercise can really make a difference to your performance, especially if you are lacking in energy. It is important to figure out which foods or drinks work for you when you are training; never try anything new when you are taking part in a race for example, as you may suffer the consequences! There are different phases to consider when taking exercise: energy phase – just before and during exercise; anabolic phase (for example the growth of bone and increases in muscle mass) – the 45-minute window following a training session; and growth phase – the end of the anabolic phase to the start of the next session.
