The Massachusetts homemaker who shares the recipe for Apple-Cranberry Pie which follows, likes to bake it in autumn when harvesting is in full swing in the local cranberry bogs and juicy apples are fresh from orchards. She prefers Baldwin and McIntosh apples if they’re available. Jonathans are a splendid choice, but any good cooking apple will fill the bill.
This New England pie baker brushes the tops of the unbaked pies with milk and sprinkles on a little sugar. “One time I made 25 of these pies for a men’s dinner,” she says. “I served them with cheese slices and the pies really made a hit.”
