You’ll need to start your lettuce and tomatoes a few months before you plan to serve your BLT. Plant them at the appropriate time of year for your location. Start tomatoes indoors from seed or buy them already started by a nursery. Choose beefsteak or another delicious juicy tomato (my favorite is Green Zebra). While I prefer a crunchy lettuce, something like romaine takes a little more growing than a soft, flat-leafed lettuce, both are acceptable in a from-scratch BLT.
