An artisan is a skilled craftsperson who makes products primarily by hand using traditional methods. Therefore, artisan foods are high-quality, traditional-style, handmade food products. Artisan charcuterie products are among the most successful of the artisan enterprises. Handmade sausages, pâtés, terrines, confits, and rillettes are now sold in high-end retail stores and online. Cured and smoked seafood products are equally popular. Bottled sauces and condiments are low-risk products that sell well and are easy to store and ship. Artisan cheeses are challenging to produce but rewarding to sell.
