While most fruits are now available year-round, a few types are still markedly superior when used in season. Melons, berries, and stone fruits such as peaches, plums, and cherries harvested fully ripe from local sources should be featured throughout their respective seasons. Apples and pears are best in late summer and through the fall. Tropical fruits are a good choice for winter menus, replacing local fruits that are unavailable at that time of year.
