Garde manger decorative arts include forming and sculpting butter into attractive shapes. Most butter décor is used as table butter, the butter that accompanies the bread served at meals. Table butter is often brought to room temperature and whipped for greater volume and to maintain a softer, more spreadable texture when cold. It can be presented in several ways:
Pressed butter is packed into a butter chip or ramekin and chilled. Before it becomes completely firm it is sometimes imprinted with a decorative butter press.
