  • About

The second generation have continued to build on the growing success of the company, both domestically and internationally, and have big aspirations for the future.

By Lizzie Redwood and Jo Williams

Omega Seafood is a proudly family owned and operated business based in the beautiful region of Marlborough, New Zealand. Our mussel farms are situated within the pristine waters of the Marlborough Sounds, and our processing factory in Blenheim.

Owners Chris and Trish Redwood have been involved in the mussel farming industry for over 40 years. Originally sheep farmers on Forsyth Island on the outskirts of Marlborough Sounds, Chris and his father Pem saw the potential for mussel farming in the late 1970s. To this day, Marlborough Sounds is where most of the Redwood family mussel farms are still located. The isolation and strong abundant currents make for a superb growing location. Despite many setbacks, Omega Seafood was born of their hard work and belief in the industry. They were able to create a category out of an industry “waste product” – the smaller graded greenshell mussels – and provide a high quality yet convenient mussel product.
