Taekyung came to Boston in the summer of 2007 to adapt her recipes using what was available locally. Taekyung came empty handed—ready for the challenge to create great Korean food using what she could find here. Japanese is our common language—so we must have made an interesting pair as we perused grocery store aisles. On our first day out shopping, we found a heads-up penny. I explained that in America this is a sign of good luck. When we got home we taped it to my fridge—an auspicious start Much to our surprise and delight, on subsequent outings, Taekyung continued to find more heads-up pennies! We had quite a collection by the time she left and divided them up on the day she returned to Tokyo.
