Growing up in Peterhead, everyone’s family were either into fishing, farming or the oil industry. For me, fishing was the natural choice and I started off very young, at the age of 16, on the PD220 Aquila where I stayed for many years, gaining experience and studying for my Class 2 fishing ticket. This led me to the Arctic Warrior as an officer on deck and with further study, I gained my Class 1 ticket, giving me the opportunity to join Kirkella, the biggest white fish trawler in the UK, as the chief mate.
