Whole chicken and poultry portions cook quickly and easily in slow cookers. To avoid any possibility of salmonella poisoning, my recipes specify to cook chicken and turkey dishes quickly on the HIGH setting. I also suggest you don’t leave cooked poultry dishes for a long time on the WARM setting.
Chicken skin can be given an appetizing golden colour by browning it before adding to the slow cooker but it will lose its crispness. If you find this unappealing, remove the skin from the chicken before you add the pieces to the container.
