Plain superfirm and extra-firm tofu are generally well tolerated (see box) on a low-FODMAP diet. These types of tofu are devoid of the carbohydrates that cause IBS symptoms, as long as they aren’t seasoned with high-FODMAP ingredients. However, avoid softer varieties of tofu, including silken tofu, as these retain more of the bean’s natural indigestible carbohydrates.
