A low-FODMAP diet isn’t a gluten-free diet. The only people with IBS who need to avoid gluten and gluten-containing products are those who have celiac disease, gluten intolerance, or wheat allergy. For everyone else, wheat is only problematic when it’s the main part of carbohydrate-based foods, such as breads (other than 100% sourdough spelt or wheat breads), cakes and other baked goods, cereals, or pastas. Foods that contain very minimal amounts of wheat, such as soy sauce or even light breading on vegetables, shouldn’t cause symptoms for most people with IBS.
