  • About
A good few years ago, I went on a biking holiday with a girlfriend who had a gluten and wheat allergy. We headed off on our epic trip and it was my first exposure to what it’s like to live with coeliac disease. It turned into a trip of education for me. At a lot of places we stopped to eat at, my friend would be told that the food was safe for her and free from wheat and gluten. I have never seen someone throw up so much on one trip; it was awful. Trying to get enough food into her to fuel her for these huge days on the bikes was a nightmare, so we quickly decided to make our own food in the evenings in our tent. At the end of the holiday we went out for a celebratory meal in a restaurant that looked like a place we could trust. But guess what, it wasn’t and she spent the last night of the trip in the ferry bathroom.
