The catalogue of crustaceans continues with the horseshoe crab, a member of the sub-phylum of arachnids, not a real crustacean; the crabs proper, which belong to the Order Decapoda reptantia or ten-footed crawlers, not the best of names since many of them are swimming crabs; and the goose-necked barnacle, a creature which belongs to the Order Cirripedia. There is good material here, on both sides of the Atlantic. The submarine palm for excellence should perhaps be awarded to the blue crab for which Chesapeake Bay is famous, but the edible crab of Europe is just about as good.
