To Prepare Yeast Sponge

Heat water to lukewarm; pour into a small bowl and sprinkle with dried yeast and sugar. Heat milk enough to melt butter, and then cool to lukewarm. Allow yeast to soak in water for a few moments before stirring; then allow it to set for 10 minutes before combining yeast and water mixture with lukewarm milk and butter mixture.
