Fertilizing Containers

  • About
Nutrients in containers will become depleted at a much faster rate than those in a raised bed or an in-ground garden. This is because containers are enclosed vessels with very little organic matter and biological activity in the soil to break it down and create bioavailable nutrients for the plants. This is evident by the lack of earthworms in a typical container. Therefore, containers need to be fertilized throughout the growing season, especially if you’re using them to grow intensively or if you’re growing heavy feeders like tomatoes and peppers.
