BEFORE OR AFTER DESSERT? WHICH IS CORRECT, WE ASK OURSELVES? In France it’s before dessert, but in the UK we tend to plonk it on the table after dessert and let guests get on with it. Well, to be perfectly honest, I’m not bothered which way round it goes, and I actually rather like the way the Italians sometimes serve it before the meal, just to put the cat among the pigeons. If you are serving cheese as a course, either before or after, the good old cheeseboard can be a frightfully boring affair, especially when you’ve just piled on it what’s available from the local supermarket.
