Home to one hundred miles of forested mountains and fairy-tale villages, Alsace is also one of the great winemaking regions of France.
Wine was part of my upbringing. Our family didn’t go to a wine store to buy wine. We would visit winemakers to taste their wines and buy directly from them, as well as see the nearby medieval castles. I, like most kids in Alsace, and in France, was introduced to wine at around age ten. When there was a big family dinner, I’d be given a little sip. I didn’t really understand what I was tasting, but I started to become interested.
