  • About

Although they originated in the Andes and are widely used all over South America, peanuts were not popular in the United States until the 20th century, and even then usually in peanut butter or as a snack. Peanuts have taken better hold in Africa— where they are called groundnuts—and are used to make soups and meat stews.

To make peanut soup, it is easiest to use old-fashioned peanut butter without stabilizers to keep it from separating. Health food stores are a good source.
