Whether it’s tapas, antipasto, yum cha or meze, small plates of shared food are a great way to eat. You try a lot of different flavours, everyone takes as little or as much as they like, and it brings us back to one of the main reasons we sit at the table together - to share each other’s company. The tradition of meze (or mezze) is found all over the Middle East, as well as in North Africa, Greece and Turkey, sometimes in its traditional role of snacks to have with a drink (very similar to tapas) and sometimes as an elaborate first course. Some of the best meze in Sydney is found at Turkish restaurant Efendy, whose owner-chef, Somer Sivrioglu, presented this selection at the Seafood School.
