  • About

The DuPont Special is named after American industrialist Irénée Du Pont de Nemours, the original owner of the exclusive Xanadú mansion, in Varadero, where this drink is served.

Thirteen miles of uninterrupted white sand emerging from warm turquoise and blue water make the beach of the Varadero resort town one of the most picturesque beaches in the world. This peninsula is about ninety miles east of Havana, a two-hour drive. Founded in 1887 by ten families seeking permission to build vacation houses, Varadero has always been a place for people in search of refuge from their busy lives. Since its humble beginning, the area has become known as an elite resort location favored by wealthy international travelers. In 1927, Irénée Du Pont de Nemours, former president of the DuPont company, built a mansion for himself that exists today as the elegant Xanadú Mansion, named after the exotic city built by the legendary Mongolian warrior, Kublai Khan.
