Here is a timely reminder: humans eat in order to keep ourselves healthy and alive. In Tibet, this is still an obvious statement of fact. Tibetan people eat the food they need to sustain themselves in the extreme cold, and it so happens that what they need is what is available. Even those who have made a life for themselves in the city will still have deep connections to their roots and the reality of rural life. Hardship and struggle are an inevitable part of the pastoral existence, and everyone is aware of the means by which food reaches the table.
