Iago Bitarishvili is one of the natural winemakers who has most contributed to the growing popularity of Georgian qvevri wines. He was one of the first to bottle and sell his wines – and they are some of the best. And he and his wife, Marina Kurtanidze, quickly understood the power of sharing Georgia’s culture of hospitality with their visitors. No one who has feasted under their pergola on meats grilled over vine prunings by Iago’s father, and khinkali and vegetable dishes prepared by Marina and the women of the family, can forget that great experience. The couple have recently built a new tasting-dining room onto their cellar in the Mukhrani Valley.
