Shota Lagazidze is a young natural winemaker: he made his first organic qvevri wines in 2015. Shota and his father, Eristo, built a cellar onto the family’s lovely 1926 house in Zemo Alvani and Shota travels between there, Tbilisi and Sighnaghi. In 2013 he founded the Agri-Tourism Farms Association to help artisan producers and rural farmers improve communications and promotion. It currently has 30 members. He also worked at Ghvino Underground where he met John Wurdeman and other winemakers.

Shota and his partner in Lagazi wines, Dato Pakhuridze, share a passion for wine. “Now we’re aiming to sell it too,” Shota says as we cross the Alazani Valley’s expansive vineyards to Oboldziani, where the two have bought a half-hectare plot.
