This guest house is ideal if you want to stay on an estate where wine and fruit products are made, close to Gremi. The Eniseli-Bagrationi property, built in the 19th century by Zakaria Jorjadze, offers a rare insight into Georgia’s aristocratic past. French-trained Jorjadze was one of the first Georgian winemakers to incorporate European technology into wine production. His Saperavi won a gold medal in Brussels in 1888.

“Zakaria lived in Tbilisi but ran his wine business from this, his summer house,” says Meri Bagrationi, the current owner, as we tour an elegant property whose charm suggests a French wine château. Much of the interior is unchanged, with period furniture and large windows overlooking the gardens and vineyards.
