Unfortunately, most of the small local fishing boats have been banished by the interests and financial power of the large commercial fishing fleets, so there’s no real possibility of buying the catch of the day from individual fishermen as you can throughout the Mediterranean. But this is still the best place in Georgia for very fresh seafood, and the town’s daily fish market is small but fun to visit. (There’s also another fishy part in the larger market, across the main road from the fish market, where there is a room for seafood and, in particular, the smoked fish that is very popular here. The fish - mainly oily fish such as mackerel -arrives frozen and is smoked in Georgia.)
