Dozens of years ago, many sardine fisheries were overexploiting stocks; in other words, they were fishing too much. But a new dawn has broken, one in which much better care is taken of fish populations, so they’ve been restored to health. Not only do the fishermen now stick to their quotas, but they also use methods that avoid bycatch and damage to the environment. The sardine fishery in Cornwall has been MSC-certified since 2010.
