  • About
Strong, Solid, Scottish stone walls have surrounded generations of everyday life in all forms, since the brochs of early man. From castle keeps and huge estates to cottages and tiny backyards, walls have created homes, provided shelter and built boundaries of all kinds.
One such wall has been lovingly restored in Skye. It surrounds the beautiful old garden of a house that dates back to 1740. The owners have researched its design and creation and believe it to be dated around 1800, or earlier. The garden is unusual, in that it was designed to be more than just a kitchen garden, as most walled gardens were originally. This one grows vegetables on the south-facing slopes, but also has a beautiful pleasure area stocked with scented roses. And at the bottom of this wonderful walled garden is a very old orchard.
