A few store owners carry on the traditions of Japanese confectionery. My favourites are the cylindrical sweets called kintaro ame. When they are sliced, the face of Kintaro, a legendary boy hero, appears. For a child, it is magic! I do not know exactly how these sweets are made, but apparently the face is drawn using several tubes, forming a very large sausage. The sausage is then stretched into a thin cylinder.
