When it comes time for the final roundup, affogato plus some budino is the way to go! A perfectly crafted double espresso poured over a densely flavored vanilla bean ice cream—now that is heaven.
Make the vanilla gelato: In a heavy saucepan, heat the cream, milk, and vanilla bean (sliced in half and the seeds scraped into the liquid) until very hot but not boiling. Remove from the heat and let sit for 1 hour or so.
When you are ready, reheat the liquid until it is very hot. Remove the vanilla bean pod.
