I am likely to upset many aunties with this statement, but I will boldly state that my mum makes the best dhokra in the world. On Sunday mornings we used to wake up to the smell of dhokra, pillowy soft sponges that I’d eat, piping hot, while I was still in my pyjamas. I’d get a smack round the head for being lazy and missing breakfast, and another smack for not waiting for the dhokra to cool, but I didn’t care.
