A lightly spiced fruit loaf positively crammed with dates, some are softened and the rest are chopped before adding to the mixture which gives a pleasing texture to the cake.
Chop the dates and place two-thirdss of them in a pan or bowl and pour on the boiling water, leave to soften. In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and add the sifted sugar, beat together until fluffy.
