Fresh berries, such as red- or blackcurrants, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries or gooseberries can be used to make fruit schnapps. Try adding a vanilla pod to the mixture, spices, such as cardamom or star anise, or herbs, such as mint or thyme.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg redcurrants, raspberries or berries of your choice, wiped clean and dried
  • 1 vanilla pod, split lengthways

Method

Place the berries and vanilla pod in a 1 litre jar with a tight-fitting lid, then top with the alcohol.
