  • About

Modern Mosul is the site of the ancient Assyrian capital, Nineveh. The city was called Mosul (connector) in Arabic because it was the middle gate, which stood at the point where four great highways met, in particular the junction of Assyria and Babylon (Burton, vol.1).

Mosul was renowned for producing a fabric known in English as muslin. It is also known for some hearty dishes containing barley, wheat, and beans, for this is where they grow in abundance.
