For the caramel:

  • 225 g (8 oz) plain (all-purpose) flour

Method

SIFT THE FLOUR, COCOA AND BAKING POWDER INTO A MIXING BOWL, THEN ADD THE SUGAR, SALT AND CHOCOLATE. In another mixing bowl, beat the egg yolks with the milk, then pour them over the previous mixture, beating at the same time. Still beating, add the butter. If the batter seems too thick at this point, you can add a little more milk.

I found the recipe for the caramel batter easy to follow. I decided that I didn’t need the sauce to go with it.
However, my waffle maker decided not to work and fused the electrics. I used my frying pan instead and made some of the batter into pancakes. After a while I set up my waffle cone maker to make waffles. So I ended up with two varieties. Soft pancakes and crunchy crisp chocolatey waffles. I wonder how they would taste using a normal waffle iron? Mine tasted yummy with my homemade vanilla ice cream and freshly picked strawberries.
