I love the scent and deep, almost buttery nuttiness of Japanese genmaicha, green tea steeped with rice that’s been roasted until it pops. There are versions of this drink elsewhere in the world—sungnyung in Korea, ranovola in Madagascar—but I didn’t realize until after I worked out this recipe that it’s made in the Philippines too.
