Barbecued Beef Sauce

  • 3½–4-lb. beef round steak, cubed
  • 1 cup finely chopped onions
  • ½ cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. chili powder
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • cup cider vinegar
  • 12-oz. can beer
  • 6-oz. can tomato paste
  • buns

Ideal Slow Cooker Size: 4–5 Quart


  1. Combine all ingredients except buns in slow cooker.
  2. Cover. Cook on Low 10–12 hours.
  3. Remove beef from sauce with slotted spoon.
  4. Place in large bowl. Shred with 2 forks. Add 2 cups sauce from slow cooker to shredded beef. Mix well.
  5. Pile into buns and serve immediately.
  6. Reserve any remaining sauce for serving over pasta, rice, or potatoes.
