There are few foods more appetizing than fried squid, kalamarakia tiganita, especially when it is enjoyed under an olive tree on the edge of a beach. And, if the squid has been caught the night before, close to the coast, as it is on Alonnisos in the summer, it is a gastronomic treat. When we visit the local restaurants, plate after plate arrive on our table, straight from the pan, the tentacles crisp and scorched.
