This is what Robin Hood took on his picnics! I love pasties and indeed, when I am making mine, I usually don’t cook the venison first. However I am the first to admit that this is chewy and, in the interests of harmony, I am offering you the more conventional method. Add anything to your pasties that amuses you but do use lard in the pastry dough—I can’t understand people who will happily eat bacon but gasp in horror at the thought of lard.
