Day 1: Preparation

  1. Peel and core the apples. Cut them into ½-in. (1-cm) dice. Place the apples in a nonreactive container and mix them with the sugar.
  2. Wash the figs and remove the fibrous stem ends. Cut the figs into ½-in. (1-cm) dice. Mix the figs with the apples.
  3. Cover the container loosely w
