Legend has it that this thick, creamy dipping sauce was invented by Nobel Prize–winning chemist Luis Federico Leloir at a seaside golf resort in his native Argentina. Bored with dipping shrimp in mayo, he grabbed ketchup and mayonnaise and mixed up this tangy sauce. It’s the perfect companion for shrimp, scallops, salads, and—of course—haute dogs.
