At their seasonal deer feasts in the pueblo of Cochiti, Laverne Garcia told me, they eat only venison stew, with Indian fry bread. But there are problems if you want to celebrate the feast in a place as remote as Princeton, New Jersey. As a New Englander trying to celebrate Thanksgiving in the Congo might remark, the natives may well have frozen butterball turkeys but where are the cranberries? Laverne found frozen venison roasts at her local supermarket, but where were the
