Danish Tea Ring is filled with almond paste, a combination of ground almonds and sugar. Almond paste can be purchased in the baking aisle of most supermarkets, either in a can or a tube encased in plastic. When possible, press the tubes and select ones that are softer when you press the sides.
Combine the milk, sugar, butter and salt in a medium saucepan and heat until small bubbles form on the sides of the pan, about 2 to 3 minutes. Cool to 115° F. The butter doesn’t need to be melted. Pour into the bowl of a heavy-duty mixer. Sprinkle the yeast over the warm water and let stand 5 minutes until the yeast is dissolved.
Add the yeast and almond extract. Stir in 2 cups flour. M
